Local MP John Mann fighting for mining families.

Claim Again Event 17th Feb Press Release for distribution to your contactsLocal MP John Mann fighting for mining families.

At 12 noon on Wednesday 17th February at the Worksop Miners Welfare, Gateford Road, Worksop opens its doors to every mining family in the area where they will get the chance to hear the facts about claims for chest disease and vibration white finger. John Mann, Labour MP for Bassetlaw said, ‘Many people have big concerns about the low level of their award, or they were not put in for services or Smith and Manchester awards.  Others don’t realise that even if the claimant is now deceased the claim can still be reviewed. Anyone who made a claim under the schemes can turn up on the day and legal experts will be on hand to assist families with advice from 12 noon to 4 pm.  A buffet lunch will be provided.’
John Mann has been on a crusade to right the wrong since it was reported that many claimants may have been ill advised in relation to the two Government schemes to compensate former miners, who as a result of their mining work contracted chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and vibration white finger. This will hopefully be the first in a series of mining community based presentations to explain to the estimated tens of thousands of mining families that were ill advised that they can sue their former legal advisers.
Two specialist solicitors in the North East have thrown their collective weight behind the quest to get injured miners and their families a fair deal in this long running saga. The collaboration between Neil Hudgell Solicitors and Ingrams Solicitors has become a formidable ally to the miners’ cause. Their joint brand, Claim Again has already attracted more than 3,000 enquiries through the mining hotline 0800 999 00 90 and the web site www.claimagain.com. Ingrams Solicitors, based in York and Hull have dealt with 8,500 claims on behalf of miners between 2001 and 2009 and contributed £200,000 from fees to the voluntary scheme to top up miners’ payments to a minimum level. Neil Hudgell Solicitors, based in Hull, specialise in professional negligence claims against solicitors in claims ranging from a few hundred pounds to several million.
