Divorce ruling is unfair, landowner claims

A landowner is hoping to secure a hearing at the Court of Appeal in a bid to get a divorce settlement ruling overturned.
A landowner is hoping to secure a hearing at the Court of Appeal in a bid to get a divorce settlement ruling overturned.

Erik Maurice Robson, 66, was ordered to pay his estranged wife Chloe £8 million after they split last year, some of which would come from the sale of Kiddington Hall in Oxfordshire.

However, Mr Robson argues that as a result of the downturn in the property market, the stately home is now only worth £13.18 million instead of the £16 million it was valued at when the original divorce ruling was made.

Consequently, he argues that the ruling is "unfair" and that the proposed settlement is "too much". He also maintains that as part of his inheritance from his parents, the house should not be split as part of the marital assets.

Last month, it was reported that an heiress had been ordered to pay her estranged husband £5 million from her own savings after he was left severely in debt by the property market, despite having been millions of pounds in the black when their original divorce ruling was made.
