Ethnicity 'is a cause of discrimination at work' |
![]() |
| A worrying number of students and recent graduates feel they are being bullied, harassed or discriminated against because of their ethnicity, a new study has found. Research by Milkround.com discovered that almost three out of five respondents to a survey had been discriminated against at work, with 45 per cent of men and 37 per cent of women citing their culture as the reason for this. Gender-based isolation was also put forward as another problem by the respondents, with 20 per cent of females and 12 per cent of males saying they had experienced this while in employment. Mike Barnard of Milkround.com said employers need to implement a clear equal opportunities policy in order to avoid losing out on talented members of staff. "Depressingly, students and graduates are starting their careers with a view discrimination is rife in the workplace," he added. In related news, research by charity Rethink shows that a large number of British workers are not reporting mental health issues because they are afraid of being discriminated against, with 59 per cent saying they would not approach their line manager about depression, anxiety and bi-polar disorder. ![]() |
