Hospital cutbacks which could cause clinical negligence revealed |
![]() |
| A new study has discovered that patients' lives could be put at risk by cutbacks in NHS trusts. According to the research from Civitas, the health service has overspent by £130 million this year, despite a four per cent year-on-year rise in funding. Since the Department of Health has decreed that no trusts must enter the new financial year in the red, hospitals are now being faced with severe cutbacks. This could cause a rise in the number of clinical negligence cases in UK hospitals. It was found that patients are being denied surgery, while others are having the number of available beds cut by as much as a third. Meanwhile, some GPs have been told to "wait to see if symptoms resolve themselves" before referring patients with conditions like skin lumps and uterine problems. James Gubb, head of health policy at Civitas, said the debt is "a huge concern". This comes in the same week that the Hull Daily Mail reported a severe lack of hospital beds in east Yorkshire due to the winter vomiting virus, potentially depriving those with serious illnesses treatment. ![]() |
