McDonald's faces personal injury compensation claim |

| Fast food giant McDonald's is facing a claim for personal injury compensation after a customer was badly scalded by one of its hot beverages. Ben Lewis, 17, had purchased a drive-through meal and a cup of tea at the Powys branch and his girlfriend had been driving away from the restaurant at five miles per hour when she hit a speed bump. The lid of Mr Lewis's drink came off and the hot tea spilt into his lap, causing serious burns to his leg. He will be unable to work for two weeks and is worried about permanent scarring. The teenager said he is considering taking legal action against the chain for negligence. "McDonald's shouldn't get away with this. There's no way it's safe to be serving drinks that hot," said his father Tony. There have been a number of compensation claims against McDonald's, but the most notable one came from a customer in the US. Stella Liebeck received an out-of-court settlement for $640,000 (£425,000) after spilling a takeout coffee on herself and suffering third-degree burns in 1992.  |
