Parliament looks over streamlined car accident compensation claims

A review into an improved compensation claims process for road traffic accidents is currently going on in parliament.

According to Insurance Daily, new proposals were announced in September last year that aim to speed up the claims process and reduce the stress involved for those injured in a car accident that was not their fault.

The government is said to be currently finalising the plans, which would see fixed stages and deadlines for the solicitors of the claimant and the person responsible.

Claims for between £1,000 and £10,000 would be covered by the new plans, which could come into force by the end of April 2010.

Justice Minister Bridget Prentice has said she believes the compensation claims process will become fairer as a result.

According to the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents, 2,538 lives were lost on Britain's roads in 2008, while another 26,034 people suffered serious injuries and 202,333 were slightly hurt.
