Yorkshire family sues after carbon monoxide deaths |

| A family from Yorkshire is seeking compensation after two children died from carbon monoxide poisoning while on holiday. Christianne Shepherd, seven, and Robert Shepherd, six, had been taken to the Louis Corcyra Beach resort in Corfu as a treat by their father Neil Shepherd and his partner Ruth Beatson. However, the family inhaled fumes from a faulty boiler which were seeping into their apartment. Mr Shepherd and his partner went into a coma, while the two children died because of the toxic fumes. Now, the Express reports that the children's father is seeking £2.6 million in compensation from Thomas Cook and the apartment's owner, while their mother Sharon Wood, who was not on the holiday, is claiming £2.1 million for her loss. "Their safety was in someone elses hands and we were let down. For this we are forever left in pain," commented Mr Shepherd. Carbon monoxide is produced when gas is improperly combusted by faulty boilers, fires and other appliances. It is colourless and odourless and shuts the body's organs down by reducing their ability to carry oxygen. ![]() |
