Yorkshire woman wins legal dispute with RSPCA over will |

| A woman from Yorkshire has won a legal battle against the Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (RSPCA) in order to claim her family estate. The High Court in Leeds has ruled in favour of Dr Christine Gill after she had been denied a stake in the £2.3 million farm near Northallerton by her parents' will. Dr Gill claimed the document, which disinherited her in favour of the animal charity, had been written by her mother against her will due to the influence of her father. However, the RSPCA refused to agree to enter into mediation to resolve the dispute, an attitude which the court deemed to be "unreasonable". The charity will now be made to burden the majority of the £1.3 million legal costs accrued by both parties over the course of the case. This comes after the Fellowship of Professional Willwriters and Probate Practitioners last month called on consumers to take professional advice from qualified experts over will drafting if they wish to avoid unnecessary ambiguities. ![]() |
